A workshop on the production of official statistics from the system of Civil registration has been organized and implemented by Statistics Norway for a group of Sudanese participants. The participants, composed of 6 Central Bureau of Statistics staff, a representative from the Federal Ministry of Health, and 2 representatives from the Civil Registration Department of the Ministry of Interior, have paid a 5-day visit to Statistics Norway to get acquainted with the Norwegian system of civil registration and the production of official statistics from the records of the civil registration. The mission has been informed about the four main registers in Norway, namely the Business Register, the Population Register, the Properties Register and the Addresses Register, and the linkages between them. The Sudanese delegation has also introduced the Sudan’s experience in the fields of civil registration and the production of official statistics therefrom. The mission got acquainted with the techniques of producing official statistics from the civil registration and the proper linkages between the Civil Registration and CBS.
The difficulties facing each department have been discussed and solutions proposed. Issues concerning data accuracy and delay of reporting vital events have been discussed within the framework of cooperation between the Civil Registration, Ministry of Health, the Community and CBS. The mission was extremely successful in the exchange of experience between Statistics Norway and CBS and the Civil Registration of Sudan; and the large body of knowledge that has been absorbed.
